About Kristin Falkner
My name is Kristin Falkner and I am a 29 year-old web designer and developer, specializing in WordPress. I have been creating websites since I was only a teenager. I developed my first professional website for a law firm at the age of 16 and I have continued pursuing it ever since.
My work shifted to focus more heavily on WordPress-based work when I noticed the growing trend of clients wanting an end product that they could update themselves without needing to rely on a developer to do so. With the learned ability to create custom WordPress themes from scratch, I am able to combine the aesthetic flexibility of a regular HTML site with the dynamic content management system power that WordPress possesses. The ability to create custom themes allows me to turn any design (whether self-created or one supplied to me) into a pixel-perfect WordPress theme. My work has been featured in the WordPress Showcase and I have also spoken about designing and developing for WordPress at multiple WordCamps, a one-day conference dedicated to WordPress.
With WordPress, I excel at custom theme design and development, PSD to WordPress and customizing existing themes. I also have experience with WordPress-based e-Commerce plug-ins. I’m also skilled in HTML5/XHTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, jQuery and MySQL. I hand-code. I use valid code that is W3C standards-compliant. For design, I work within the Adobe Creative Suite, primarily in Photoshop.
I genuinely love the work that I do and I work to create a positive working relationship with each one of my clients. One of the things that I most love about web design and development is the constantly evolving nature of the industry and how there is always something new to learn. I’m always quick to add to my existing skill set and will to continue to grow along with the industry.
I currently split my time between Los Angeles and Kansas City, but I also try to travel whenever I can, as one of my other favorite things about what I do is the ability to do it from anywhere with a working internet connection. When I’m not staring at a computer screen, you will probably find me at the movie theater, volunteering with animal rescue groups like LA’s Much Love Animal Rescue, staring at my Kindle’s screen lost in a book or spending time with my two (soon to be three!) favorite little people on the planet — my nephews — and my other family and friends.
