My name is Kristin Falkner and I am a 35-year-old web designer and developer, specializing in WordPress. I have been creating websites since I was only a teenager. I developed my first professional website for a law firm at the age of 16 and I have continued pursuing it ever since.

My work shifted to focus more heavily on WordPress-based work when I noticed the growing trend of clients wanting an end product that they could update themselves without needing to rely on a developer to do so. With the learned ability to create custom WordPress themes from scratch, I am able to combine the aesthetic flexibility of a regular static site with the dynamic content management system power that WordPress possesses. The ability to create custom themes allows me to turn any design (whether self-created or one supplied to me) into a pixel-perfect WordPress theme. My work has been featured in the WordPress Showcase and I have also spoken about designing and developing for WordPress at multiple WordCamps, a one-day conference dedicated to WordPress.

With WordPress, I excel at taking designs and turning them into custom WordPress themes. I have experience working with WordPress-based e-commerce plug-ins such as WooCommerce. I’ve worked with integrating external e-commerce systems like Shopify into WordPress, as well. I’m skilled in HTML5, CSS3, Sass, PHP, Javascript, jQuery and MySQL. I hand-code. I version control my projects with Git. I use valid code that is W3C standards-compliant. For design, I work within the Adobe Creative Suite, primarily in Photoshop, but if you want to throw Illustrator or Sketch files my way, I’m game. I definitely prefer development to design, but I can take on both aspects with projects, as needed.

I genuinely love the work that I do and I work to create a positive working relationship with each one of my clients. One of the things that I most love about web design and development is the constantly evolving nature of the industry and how there is always something new to learn. I’m always quick to add to my existing skill set and will continue to grow along with the industry.

I’m from the Kansas City area originally, but I moved out to Los Angeles in my early 20s. I currently split my time between the two. I travel often & whenever I can, as one of my favorite things about what I do is the ability to do it from anywhere with a working internet connection. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with agencies all across the U.S., as well as internationally, so I’m experienced with staying highly communicative and virtually present enough to overcome any physical distance. If I’m not in the Los Angeles or Kansas City area, I’m probably in New York or San Diego or who knows where! When I’m not traveling or staring at a computer screen, you will probably find me at the movie theater, staring at my Kindle’s screen lost in a book, or spending time with my rescue pup named Lola or my other family & friends.
